The Alpha male is a master at displaying the "momentary neutral expression" on his face. He makes sure that he does so during both positive and negative encounters with other people.
The Alpha male is calm, cool, and collected during every social situation. He never shows emotion on anyone else's timetable but his own. The Alpha male always controls the environment of emotion in the group he is in and has everyone in the group working from his frame. They are subconsciously "trained" by the Alpha male to seek his approval because he establishes himself as the leader of the group.
The Alpha male will not show any emotion without making the person he is dealing with or other people in the group earn it. When someone tries to amuse or impress the Alpha male, his smiles, chuckles, and approval are slow in coming. When another person greets the Alpha male, he slowly breaks out his smile in way that lets the other person know that this smile is just for them. The Alpha male understands that the other person will appreciate the uniqueness of his emotion when it is earned--instead of just given away quickly, freely, and easily.
People will sometimes test the Alpha male or try to establish the frame of what's going on for themselves. They will try to "push his buttons." When someone tries to get a negative reaction from the Alpha male, that person immediately realizes that his or her efforts are futile. The Alpha male simply gives the impression that he doesn't "get it" (although he certainly does). The other person will never get a reaction from the Alpha male until the Alpha male DECIDES to react.
The Alpha male works from his own timetable and decides when, how, and how much emotion he gives to another person's words or actions.
This is just one more of the subtle ways the Alpha male is influential, persuasive, and charismatic--and always controls the frame.
